Creating Work Opportunities

Welcome to the Neurodiversity Employment Partnership (NEP), where we are creating employment opportunities and fostering inclusive work environments across New England and beyond.

Neurodivergent job seekers can discover resources for skill building, vocational training, job coaching, and job placement. And employers can learn how a neurodivergent workforce can benefit their company culture and their bottom line.

Together, we can solve employee recruitment issues and achieve employment for all neurodivergent people who want to work.

Success Stories

Lawn work

Trevor

Trevor works as a self-employed landscaper in the MA South Shore communities. Dharma Dreams Vocational Center provided patient guidance and skill-building to help him develop a meaningful, self-driven career.

Trevor actively seeks out clients, motivates himself each day, and takes pride in doing hard work that he enjoys. His commitment and consistency demonstrate that, with the right tools and a supportive community, he was able to move beyond perceived limitations and is thriving in his own unique way.

Cooking

Zack

Zack works as a Jersey Mike’s Crew Member. His desire to work in the food service industry began with his participation in the Culinary Arts Program at League School for Autism located in Walpole, MA.

After some initial job coaching and skills training, he learned how to do food prep and work behind the counter to complete customer orders. Working at Jersey Mike’s offers Zack flexible scheduling to work two days per week while continuing his school academics and ongoing vocational training during the remainder of the week.

Technology job

Alex

Alex works on the Identity Governance and Administration corporate solutions team in Dell’s Security & Resiliency Organization. He leads the quality control testing process for new computer applications.

While in Dell’s Neurodiversity Hiring Program, he worked with managers and mentors who understand the learning and thinking differences of neurodivergent individuals and received on-the-job training with a dedicated career coach. He describes the work environment as one that not only meets his needs but champions his passion, knowledge, and unique perspective, motivates him to expand his skillset, and builds his confidence.

Responding to an Employment Crisis

Between 50-85% of 5.6 million autistic/neurodivergent adults are unemployed or underemployed, and only 22% of autistic/neurodivergent people reported having paid work. At the same time, there are hundreds of thousands of jobs that remain vacant.

The Neurodiversity Employment Partnerships is addressing this employment crisis by collaborating with educators and organizations who build skills for neurodivergent adults to use in the workplace, reaching out to employers with the skills to support neurodivergent workers and their managers, and identifying employers who have the capacity to equitably engage neurodivergent talent. We are working to become the central resource for workforce opportunities for neurodivergent adults in New England.
